The State of Idaho is still awaiting the announcement of awards by the U.S. Small Business Administration for the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Grant for federal fiscal year 2018. However, in anticipation of this potential award, they are moving forward as planned and are NOW OPEN for applications for eligible projects occurring in the grant period; September 30, 2018 – September 29, 2020. This longer, 2-year project period is new to the program and allows companies to plan their marketing calendars further out and also allows for a longer and more accurate results reporting period.

  • Individual awards ranging between $2,000 minimum up to $10,000 maximum are available for your own eligible activity falling between September 30, 2018 and September 29, 2020
  • Only 1 award allowed per application window, multiple rounds dependent upon availability of funds.
  • 35% cash match required (For every authorized $1.00 you spend you will be reimbursed $0.65)
    • MINIMUM AWARD = $2,000
      • Allowable expenditures of $3,077, you will be reimbursed $2,000
        • $3,077 x 65% = $2,000
    • MAXIMUM AWARD = $10,000
      • Allowable expenditures of $15,385, you will be reimbursed $10,000
        • $15,385 x 65% = $10,000
  • Review and scoring process will be very competitive!

    • Receive an example copy of the questions you will see in the application in the online portal system which is very nice to use to prep your application from outside of the online portal system.
    • Get introduced to your industry’s International Trade Specialist at Idaho Department of Commerce or the Idaho State Department of Agriculture.  They are here to help you and can be a valuable resource during the application process including tips before you upload your submission (time permitting)
